How to get to Eleuthera?

Just a 60 to 75 minute flight from Miami and Fort Lauderdale in Florida, and 20 minutes from Nassau, air travel to Eleuthera is easy. The island's three airports are also available to private planes.

What Airport Should I Fly Into?

If your final destination is Spanish Wells or Harbour Island, then book your flight into North Eleuthera Airport. Fly into Governor’s Harbour if you’re visiting Rainbow Bay, Palmetto Point, Double Bay or Ten Bay. Rock Sound Airport services the southern communities and is situated between Tarpum Bay and Rock Sound.

On Eleuthera, the average annual temperature is 77° F. Winter temperature ranges from approximately 67°F to 78°F, and summer temperature ranges from 80°F to 90°F. The annual average rainfall estimate is 76 inches.

What should I use for money and how can I get extra cash?

U.S. currency is on par with the currency in the Bahamas. US and Bahamian dollars are accepted anywhere on the island. Credit Cards are accepted at most places and Travelers checks can be cashed at the banks. ATM's can be found at the various banks in Harbour Island, Governor's Harbour, and Rock Sound.

Medical clinics are located at Harbour Island and Governor’s Harbour, and there is also a medical doctor in Governors Harbour.

Just over 11,000 inclusive of Spanish Wells and Harbour Island, according to the 2000 census.

Can I drink the water?

The water is safe but most residents and visitors drink bottled water, which is readily accessible all over the island.

You may use your existing license for up to 3 months.

What should I bring?

Here are the essentials...Sunscreen/suntan lotion, sunglasses, cool clothing, a hat, sweater/light jacket for winter evenings, your favorite bug repellant, and any prescription medicines or special medications you may need.

Do I need a passport to visit Eleuthera?

It is recommended to carry a passport.

Do I need special immunizations?

No, not if you are arriving from North America or Europe.

What is the electrical current?

All islands in the Bahamas have 110/120 volts AC.

Yes, you should bring your Long Distance card - just obtain the access number from the Bahamas from your local provider). Many cell phones from the U.S. and other countries will work in Eleuthera.

Are television, internet, private phones and fax lines available?
