6 Top Fitness Events in The Bahamas
So, you may be a part-time resident/second home owner, in the throws of a relocation search for the perfect piece of Bahamas Real Estate or a native Bahamian…Whatever your situation, I don’t know about you, but when I’m in The Bahamas, I tend to get a bit lazy in the summer.
I blame it on the sunshine. Elsewhere, the cold of winter is a good excuse to curl up on the sofa with a glass of red and a bowl of pasta. In the languid Bahamas, the heat of summer is a fine reason to wallow in the warm azure sea with a tumbler of rum ‘n’ coke (plen’y ice) before retreating to the shade for some tasty Bahamian food followed by a siesta.
But alas, you cannot spend everyday like that. While The Bahamas are truly conducive to relaxation, there is also avid health awareness. In The Bahamas, the popular fitness season starts in the fall, when the humidity has dropped and you’re left with glorious days and long cool(ish) evenings. This is the best time to jump on your bike, go for an ocean swim, or take to the streets with a local running group. But if you need more than perfect weather to inspire your pursuit of the perfect beach body, then here’s a list of Top Fitness events.
Mark them on your calendar (and don’t forget to train!):

This 1k Swim, 25k Bike, 5k Run Triathlon takes place in the crystal waters of Lucaya Beach and wide boulevards of Port Lucaya. A popular community fundraiser, the weekend includes an Iron Kids Conchman and family entertainment.

2. Bahamas Half Marathon – Nov. 23rd 2014 – Arawak Cay, New Providence
A great challenge in itself or a preparatory race for the Full Marathon in January. Competitors can choose from an Individual Half Marathon, 3 Person Half Marathon Relay or 10k, all of which are run along the beautiful northern coastline of New Providence.
3. 6th Annual Race Weekend aka Marathon Bahamas – Jan. 17th – 19th 2015 – New Providence

4. 10th Annual Ride For Hope– Feb. 18th 2015 – Eleuthera
This fund-raising bike-a-thon attracts hundreds of riders from across the world to the out-island paradise of Eleuthera. Over the years, more than 1,600 riders have pedalled in excess of 40,000 miles and raised $1.6 million to help people with cancer in The Bahamas. An outstanding family event and exceptional fundraiser, supported by our HG Christie team including CEO, John Christie.

This is a charitable Fun Run like no other! Runners and walkers wind their way along a 5km course while being pelted by bright Caribbean colours. Each participant receives their own Colour Run shirt and wayfarer sunglasses.
This is another FUN family event! The excitement and spirit of the event is palatable; you will even find “serious” athletes donning tutus in anticipation of this lively, ‘colourful’ albeit messy experience. Another favourite amongst HG Christie Agents and families!
6. Up The Creek with a Paddle Kayak Challenge – Nov. 8th2014 – Abaco
Paddlers choose from three courses – 5 miles, 8 miles or 13 miles that take them through a wild and scenic tidal creek. Post race jubilations are hosted at the infamous Pete’s Pub in Lower Harbour.
