“They coming by boat, they coming by plane”

The Long Island Bahamas Regatta is just three weeks away and the island is gearing up for this much anticipated cultural tradition. The 49th annual event will be held from Thursday, June 2nd thru Saturday, June 4th at the Regatta Site in Salt Pond, Long Island.

This sailing regatta is the second largest in The Bahamas, and is the major fund-raiser on the island bringing together families, friends, and visitors from all over The Bahamas and the world.  Skippers from throughout The Bahamas compete for cash prizes and trophies in A, B and C class races. Some of the impressive sailing sloops that take part in the regatta are built right on the island in the settlement of Mangrove Bush.  Artisans display their unique handmade crafts, jewelry, and straw goods; plus a number of tasty native dishes are served.  There are games for the entire family, plus a kids’ corner, and performances by local bands.

To kick off the upcoming Long Island Bahamas Regatta, the Long Islanders’ Association will be holding their Annual Fair and Raffle tomorrow, May 14, 2016 at R.M. Bailey Park.

Tell your friends, bring your friends and come join in the fun.  See you there!
