The Bahamas can be a nightlife haven for those that want an authentic beach style blowout; cabanas, yachts and all. However, for those that want to escape the hustle and bustle of city life, Exuma is a great place to start.
Exuma has a population of 7,000 people that spans over the vast 365 isles and cays. The capital, Georgetown, is a hub for small dive bars and restaurants that run mainly on island time. The main mode of transportation in Exuma is golf carts. That’s right, golf carts. While there are other options, since the island is so sparsely populated and a largely laid back environment, those that live there cart around from one place to the next without worry.
You can, however, use those carts on the beautiful Emerald Bay Golf Course. If you were ever looking to get a few holes in while taking in the gorgeous blue waters and fresh island breeze, this is the place to do it. After a day of golf, unwinding at the Lumina Point Spa would feel heavenly.
But if you’re mainly looking for a quiet experience that consist of swimming in the Caribbean’s bluest ocean or running your feet through the soft sand, there are multiple luxury rental homes and resorts on the litter of cays. You can arrange private massages and take personal yoga lessons in your room or on the beach.
Though, if you really want to privately explore Exuma, sailing is the best way to do it. A picnic at the Little Galliot Cay Sandbar or exploring the Rocky Dundas Caves, snorkeling around Thunderball Grotto and through Pablo Escobar’s sunken plane on Norman Cay, boating is the way to go.
For the thrill-seekers, you can arrange private tours to dive into Angelfish Blue Hole or
swim with the sharks on Compass Cay. For a lifetime of memories, you can travel to Pig Beach and interact with the wild life; pigs, turtles and stingrays! Walk the coast of Coco Plum Beach in search of the water swing or sand dollars.
Exuma is guaranteed to make you unplug and take in its beauty. After your trip, we’re sure you’ll fall in love with everything it has to offer.
