Education is one of the most important aspects of a child’s life. Where they go helps mould who they could potentially be in the future, thus it’s natural one would only want only the best school for their child to bring out the very best that they could be. As such, for those who live or are planning to live in Grand Bahama, below are just three of the best that could serve as good choices to send your children.

Lucaya International School

Screen Shot 2022-10-07 at 2.27.47 PMFor the first one up, we have the Lucaya International School. Located on Chesapeake Drive, like what its name suggests, it’s a school that specializes in the education of both local and foreign students, with around 50% coming from overseas. This a trait that would be handy for those who come from overseas to live in the Bahamas and looking for a school to help their child to integrate well into their new environment.

The Lucaya International School was founded in 1988, with its educational program being based on North American, British and International Baccalaureate Organization guidelines. Teaching from Pre-K to Grade 12, LIS boasts a curriculum dedicated to preparing students for any further international accords. It also holds a high tuition rate with over $8,000 for preschool to over $32,000 for high school. However, LIS also allows for financial aid and scholarships to assist if people have a rough time trying to pay, with this aid allowing those on it to pay in instalments rather than all at once.

Mary Star of the Sea Catholic School

Screen Shot 2022-10-07 at 2.30.32 PMNow, this academy is for those that desire for their child’s education to be aligned more with the Catholic doctrine of things. Founded in 1960, and located on Sunrise Highway, it was a venture created by the Most Reverend Bishop Paul Leonard Hagarty, Mr Wallace Groves and the Grand Bahama Port Authority. To this day it still boasts an education based upon Catholic discipline – to the point that the Virgin Mary herself is the very basis of their school song: “Hail, Mary, Song of the Sea”.

The school supports education from early as K3 to up to Grade 12. For K3-Grade 6 the tuition is about $1,042.75, while for the Grade 7-12 students, their tuition would be $1,207.50. In addition, if one finds that they can not pay right away, there are deferred payment plans to choose from! So, for those wanting their child to be raised in Christian education and have it be affordable, choosing Mary Star would likely net you the ideal results.

Grand Bahama Academy

Screen Shot 2022-10-07 at 2.30.42 PMLocated on Turcrose Road, there resides the religious institution of the Grand Bahama Academy. Founded back in 1981, the Grand Bahama Academy was created by the non-profit organization: North Bahamas Conference of Seventh-day Adventists. As its name suggests, one could expect that this academy specializes in educating children in both academics and religion – the Seventh-day Adventist way!

The academy specialized in K-12 education with its students, with the tuition for the school itself being on the cheaper side compared to others. Namely, $1,050 for elementary school students, with high school students having a slightly increased amount of $1,250. For those that would seek their child to grow up learning more about the teachings brought up by the Seventh-day Adventist faith, then this is an academy that can not be ignored!

These are just three of the best private schools that Grand Bahama has to offer! Are you a parent that desires an institution that helps your child integrate easily with their new environment? Do you put value in having an education based on religion? Willing to spend a good deal or look for something cheaper, yet just rewarding? Grand Bahama is filled to the brim with schools like these: high quality and certainly to have one perfect to get your child to become quite educated.

Plus, after high school, if you were ever undecided about where to potentially send your child off to next for higher education, then there’s always the University of the Bahamas – North! A bustling university would be more than enough to get your child off the path from being a mere student to gripping onto a valuable career!
