HGC Tips | Trends of 2023

As another year closes, another year begins to take its place. As such, this means a new year to get ahead on home trends in the Bahamas.

Let 2023 be a redecorating revolution that reinvents your house to be one that is more suited to be one that not only impresses anyone else but one that you can truly be happy with!

Colour of the Year

According to the Pantone Color of the Year Institute, the official colour of the year for 2023 is Viva Magenta – one described as being dominating, but not too overwhelming that nothing else can be shown.

So why not go for that concerning your interior and exterior walls? Show the world visually how you’re prepared to make a stand against the might of the new year! Plus, add some complementary colours like yellow or blue to help stand out aesthetically.

For example, try straw furniture! Straw isn’t just for making iconic hats or handy handbags. Even good furniture can be woven from them. Straw chairs and straw tables can easily be the backbone of your home, giving both functionalities and getting in touch with the ‘island’ side of Bahamian culture.

Of course, not everyone might like such a thing. So there’s no harm in going for the classic appeals for the year! Why not aim for acquiring a silk couch for you and your loved ones to gather around and talk? Have a marble coffee table that one can rest your drink or laptop on? Why not replace your plain wooden closet with one that’s made of Red Oak? There are many ways in which one can improve their home based on that front.

Interior Decorating

As one heads into the New Year, thinking about getting some new decorations might be a good thing to tackle as well. What better way to celebrate the new you and your home than with some good ol’ interior redecorating?

Two examples are:

  • Marine-Based Decor – The Bahamas is filled and surrounded by unique aquatic life. Such life can easily be used to enhance your home decorations. Why not try to add a conch shell into the mix? Or maybe some curtains based on our sought-after wave? ‘Sea’ if you can incorporate some of that water wonderland more so into your home.
  • Pottery and Wooden-based Art – The Bahamas is filled with skilled sculptors and craftsmen of all types. Why not use those skills to get your head on a beautifully made vase for a house plant? Or acquire some wooden figurines depicting a time before the 21st century or even one made of yourself or loved ones?

Overall, we here at H.G. Christie hope you have a wonderful New Year!
